In 1954 there existed in Amsterdam around 200 playgrounds designed by Dutch architect Aldo van Eyck, which in turn gave him the opportunity to design what is considered one of the most significant buildings in modern architectural history: the Amsterdam Orphanage.
A hugely influential Dutch architect and theorist, Aldo Van Eyck conducted a thirty-years-long (1947 – 1978) research through practice designing hundreds of public playgrounds in Amsterdam while working for the Urban Development Department.

The afternoon starts with a lecture by Anna van Lingen and Denisa Kollarová about their publication ‘Aldo van Eyck – Seventeen Playgrounds’ about Van Eyck’s unique playgrounds in Amsterdam. Their minimalistic design intended to stimulate the imagination and curiosity of city kids. This premise is very topical again; how to involve children in the urban fabric in a playful way? The lecture
